Fiduciary Standard vs. Suitability Rule
The Wealth Planning and Advisory acts as a Fiduciary for its clients and works on a fee only basis. Not only is providing the highest standard of client care at the forefront of what drives Monroe Bank & Trust, but by law, serving in a Fiduciary capacity means we must always put our clients interests ahead of our own. The “Fiduciary Standard” encompasses a duty of loyalty and care and means we must act in the best interest out clients.
Acting in a Fiduciary capacity contrasts with brokers who operate under a “Suitability Rule”. Brokers typically work on a commission basis and may provide recommendations and investment selections which result in higher fees so long as the investments are “suitable” for the client. A broker is free to pick investments which pay a higher commission even though it may mean higher expenses for a client. This can also incentivize brokers to sell their own products ahead of competing products which may be available at a lower cost.
Disciplined Fiduciary Asset Management
Monroe Bank & Trust Wealth Planning and Advisory will act as trustee, co-trustee or agent for the trustee. The team will:
- Assure clients wishes are carried out both during their lifetime and afterward.
- Assure assets held in trust are managed according to the directives written in the trust document(s).
