12-11-09 Text Message Scam

DO NOT answer text messages claiming to
be from Monroe Bank & Trust (MBT)

The scammers send a text to your cell phone that warns you of a problem with your bank account. They have used various area financial institutions including MBT. The text continues "Urgent Call 1-888-880-4057” or similar statements to take action. When called, the customer is then directed by an automated voice to enter their account number and PIN. The scammers change the call back number frequently so as not to be tracked.

MBT (AND OTHER BANKS) WILL NEVER CONTACT YOU FOR YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION BY EMAIL, TEXT MESSAGES OR ON THE PHONE!!
